The Great Race!

The Great Race is an active, fast moving dynamic event that fully involves all participants while providing a unique and fun way to explore the city. Strong teams are built by working together in a fun, fast moving competitive environment. Teams will be required to find and utilise various transport methods to travel to each checkpoint. Transportation may include boats, buses, trains and of course walking! Each team will have an equipment pack with a map, compass, Polaroid camera and informational material. Teams will also take a series of specified team photos at fixed locations around the city to earn bonus points.

Yesterday (June 9th) was our Managing Director's early birthday! We knew he's going to celebrate his birthday with his family at home today so gave him a surprise at the office! We got David a chocolate fudge cake from Secret Recipe. Yumm!

Focus on Results
In order for teams to be effective, they must all be cohesively focused on the end result. Dysfunctional teams tend to focus on their own goals and self-interest. This leads to misinterpretations of the end result and difficulty achieving a successful outcome.
Accountability
It is important for each of the team members to be accountable for their actions. Also each member must be willing to call out a team member’s bad behavior or poor performance. Also, it is important for each member to play their role. Otherwise, it can result in a team with resentment and based on bureaucracy.
Commitment
This results from clearly understanding responsibilities in engaging with the team in decision making. Everyone being involved is an important factor of team play.
Trusting during times of conflict
As in any relationships, there are bound to be conflicts due to differences in ideas, values, and upbringing. It is important not to fear them, but rather use it in a productive way. Focus on ideas and solutions. Listen to each other suggestions and find a compromise. If members focus on personalities and fault finding it will lead to an unhealthy working relationship.
Showing vulnerability
It is important to create a safe environment with all team members so that each member can admit to mistakes and weaknesses. In this way, politics and wasting time can be avoided.

Day 1-2 of our recent Educational Adventure with an international school from Hong Kong. The 5 days 4 nights adventure saw us jungle trekking, playing IQ games, visiting a local village school, playing Borneo traditional games, visiting the cultural village (head hunters, eep!), cooking traditional delicacies, dancing to traditional music and learning the Magunatip dance and many more. We had so much fun working with the kids!

It was such a wonderful experience; Richard and David got to meet with Muay Thai instructors, and the graceful Gaston - an international dancer/choreographer who choreographed out tiger dance. It was a completely different experience for us as teambuilders. Apart from learning the martial art and dance, we painted a huge banner and setup mouse traps for the blind trekking activity. It sounds awfully dangerous, we know. But it brought out the best in everyone!

Energy was high during the day with some teams there to have fun, others a little more competitive.

Around 3pm we had the CEO or MD’s and VIP arriving to take par take in some Champaign and while playing a simple game of Pentanque or Boules to help score bonus points for their respective teams. It was also an opportunity for Biz ability to network with them.

Challenges ended around 5ish and teams were cooling off, washing up and getting changed with light snacks provided, waiting for dinner to be served around 6:30 it was brought forward by an hour as people were getting restless.

Hercules Trophy (Part 2)

It started with a gentle buzz in the morning as teams started to stroll in. We weren’t quite sure what to expect. But the Dj was pumping out tunes to get the teams into the mood, it affected us in quite in the same way – we got excited! Almost wanted to join the participants and not run the event!

Anyway, arriving participants started to congregate into their group / teams as they got themselves ready for the days programme. They were also given a brain labour / quiz questions to answer as part of the challenge.

Pretty soon the holding area which was located around the stage and DJ station started to swell with participants and so did the number of team flags being hoisted up on poles. The gathering area very quickly started to look colourful with teams in their team jerseys and company flags fluttering in the wind. It all just added to the build up of the atmosphere. It looked like a mini gathering of tribes about to do battle. All it needed was a spark..!

Motivation. We hear the term often. Generally we associate the word with human behavior, meaning, a state of mind that moves us to action. And even though few of us have had formal training in it, it’s one of those characteristics of life that seems to fit the old adage, “I know it when I see it.”

For most of my years working in the field of workplace collaboration, this word has held a place of stature and importance, because it has been, perhaps, the most significant outcome of worker involvement. As the collaboration trend, and more specifically, the use of employee teams continues to grow, one question that is taking on greater importance is how to keep the team motivated over the long haul.

Our recent Bridging the Divide event saw us working in the midst of a demonstration in Bangkok – we had to reschedule everything and despite all the commotion and such, we managed to run the event smoothly so shoutout to our Bangkok team!

The two days programme was held at Le Meridien and was kick started with a team workshop by our very own Paul Russel. Team Survival at Gaya Island..!

Last weekend we went on a (speedboat) to the beautiful Gaya Island. We were welcomed by the helpful Bunga Raya Resort - our teambuilding venue on that day. We did the Team Survival with 38 merchant bankers who came from different parts of the world. The weather was as gorgeous as the clear blue ocean.

15 Famous Minutes in fur and tight leather pants!

We all want to be in the limelight every once in a while (don't lie!, we know that. We know it so well that we came up with a team building programme that allows you to re-enact scenes from your fave movies! So recently we had a couple of new 15 Famous Minutes requests - The Matrix and King Kong!

Kudos to our crews for preparing the 15 Famous Minutes equipment, especially Sylvia who did a grand job sewing the costumes and Richard for hunting the gorilla suit!

Television commercials are, without doubt, one of the most powerful and pervasive communication mediums. Using techniques, from subtle to outright blatant, commercials make us laugh, influence our behaviour and alter our perceptions. To effectively sell an idea, product, service or brand, nothing comes close to a great television ad.

Deemed as one of our funniest (and without a doubt, one of the most fun) team building activities, Commercial Break encourages participants to work closely together whilst utilising all their creative, strategic and project management skills. An awards ceremony tops off the experience where advertising excellence is rewarded and celebrated.

The commercial can promote your own company, products or services; poke fun at your competitors; or deliver powerful internal messages on teamwork, values or customer service. This fun and engaging experience is a great way to reinforce your conference goals by encouraging your delegates to think about, and interpret, the messages themselves.

Participants are split into smaller ‘agencies’ that are given the same brief or a range of objectives to cover different messages. The agencies then have to develop a strategy, storyboard and script before moving on to production. They are provided with all the equipment, from cameras to clapperboards, required to get the idea on screen and the skills to make it happen including make-up and acting lessons. As in the real advertising world, management of time, people and resources will be critical to success.
